Converse & Atlanta Hawks Maurice "Mo" Evans introduce New Converse Star Player Evo at Converse's Open Gym
On November 13, at BEST Academy in Atlanta close to 500 local youth participated in Converse Open Gym. In addition to competing in pick-up basketball games and receiving complimentary Converse gear and haircuts from Master Barber Coty Morgan, the youth were also treated to a visit from Atlanta Hawks Forward Maurice Evans and Rashan Ali of V-103 FM
Converse has hosted Open Gym around the country for youth ages 12 to 18. The program gives every player, regardless of skill level, the opportunity to play basketball and has garnered participation from over 25,000 youth. Participants receive Open Gym jerseys and some have the opportunity to test Converse performance basketball product, like the new Star Player Evo, and hear from Converse athletes like Elton Brand and Maurice Evans
I had the opportunity to participate in the Full Converse Atl Open Gym Experience. The process is once you arrive you start registration, receive your custom ID(see below), issued a free chevron open gym reversible jersey, then your ready to participate in various basketball games.
Maurice took some time to talk with me about his involvement in Converse Atlanta and I inquired about what was the most fulfilling part for him?
Mo Evans "I really enjoy giving back to the community I play in, Converse Atlanta has put me in a position to provide a positive impact for the kids that participate in this program"
Maurice Evans took part in every aspect of the event, from serving as a court-monitor and registering kids, to sharing some of his on-court knowledge & off-court experiences. This was a phenomenal event I'm so thankful I was able to be apart of it. Special thanks to Monica Coleman of M320 Consulting for the invite and Kee Images & Paras Griffin for the photography.
