Singer/Songwriter Kalenna started writing songs at 11, when she would accompany her father—a rapper and army man—into the studio. As a military daughter, she moved often, living in diverse locations including Alaska, Germany and Hawaii. In music, she found a home for herself even as “home” was constantly changing. She eventually channeled her talent for songwriting into a successful career penning hits for Jill Scott, Jennifer Lopez, Timbaland and multi-platinum producer Rodney Jerkins. I had the pleasure of speaking with Kalenna about her favorite hair products, fashion and More. Check it out below
Arkeedah: What inspired you to go blonde?
Kalenna: I think it looks good on me, as a woman you play with different looks Blonde hair does it for me, with the dark hair it made me " low key" it doesn't express who Kalenna really is, Kalenna is very Vibrant and free. Its a free color and I love Blonde on me.
Arkeedah: Your nails are so dope, what is the inspiration behind it and who does your nails?
Kalenna: OMG so I've traveled the world all my life and I was doing research on Japanese nail art, and I fell in love with it and to make a long story short, its based off of wealthy women in Japan they would get their nails done really elaborate and that was a statement of their wealth, basically a statement that they don't do any cooking, cleaning dishes, etc and I'm sure it goes deeper than that, so I was thinking I want to get this done .So I started flying a girl in from Japan to LA to do my nails
Arkeedah: What are you favorite hair products?
Kalenna: Redken Color Extend Conditioner I cant live without it, and the TRESemmé extra hold hair spray it has hold but doesn't make my hair hard
Arkeedah: Is it true that your working on a clothing line?
Kalenna: Yes I'm actually working on it, I put the project on hold a little because I was doing some research over in Italy and Paris and even London. The clothing line is going to be super fly, super swagged out, its clean I love Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Helmet Lane, I can go on for days but Alexander McQueen is someone I definitely fell in love with his style and he inspired me to do a clothing line. I want to have a line that's affordable and still speaks fashion.
Arkeedah: What is one beauty product you cant leave the house without?
Kalenna: Hmm You know what, I can't name one I walk around with a whole kit honey, (laughs) I need my lip gloss of course, I need a clear and a pink, I need my whole brush kit , and most importantly a concealer I don't leave out without it EVER, you never know when you need to touch up.
