Trey Anthony of Trey Anthony Studios is excited to debut her four-time NAACP Award-winning stage play, ‘da Kink in My Hair’ in Atlanta September 6 - 8, 2013 at the Cobb Energy Performance Arts Centre. Starring two time Grammy Award-winning R&B artist, Melanie Fiona, R&B Diva’s Angie Stone and renowned actress Terri Vaughn, ‘da Kink in My Hair’ is an emotionally charged stage play, giving voice to eight black women who tell their unforgettable stories of love, hope, survival and redemption. ‘da Kink in My Hair’ is sponsored in part by Tropical Roots and 4 Naturals.
Set in
Toronto at a Caribbean hair salon, ‘da Kink in My Hair’ revolves around
Novelette, a West Indian hair stylist who serves as a confidant for each
character who struggles through everyday trials and tribulations; many which are
familiar to most black women. From a mother losing a child to gun violence, to a
career-driven woman who lacks love in their personal life, executive producer,
Trey Anthony uses the ‘da Kink in My Hair’ as a platform to successfully
blend real life stories of laughter, tears, revelation and
inspiration.
‘da Kink
in my Hair’
theatrical play, was nominated four times by the Dora Mavor Moore Awards
(Canadian awards equivalent to the Tony’s) in 2003, has received critical
acclaim and broken box office records since its debut. The play is also the
recipient of four NAACP Theatre awards and was the first Canadian play to be
produced at the Princess of Wales Theatre, Canada’s largest commercial theatre
and was named as one of the top ten plays in Canada’s theatrical history. ‘da
Kink in My Hair’ has been seen in California, London, England and made its
New York debut at Tisch School for the Arts at New York University in October
2010.
