While trucks and SUVs are seen as your stereotypical
tailgating vehicle, smaller eco-friendly vehicles provide a fun (and
sustainable) tailgating experience too! The Ford C-MAX Hybrid brings you green
tailgating tips for the season. With these tips, Ford encourages Atlanta
consumers to help execute the “Power to Change” plan to make Atlanta a leading
city in the nation for sustainability.
1.
Moore the merrier - Use “park-n-pool” method of transportation.
Meeting at one location and driving only one vehicle to the game will result in
lower fuel costs and environmental impact which can be taken even further by
driving a Ford hybrid, electric or other alternative vehicle.
2.
Chuck the charcoal - “The grill flavor” from a charcoal BBQ can
lead to almost three times as much CO2 released into the air. Go with a propane
grill that can easily fit into a trunk or cargo area – your children’s children
will thank you.
3.
Energy on board - Leave the big gas guzzling generator at home!
Have a stereo for music, lights for decoration, or just need to charge your
phone? A growing number of vehicles such as the Ford C-MAX, have standard plugs
available.
4.
Dish it out - It doesn’t take a lot of effort to generate almost
zero waste – just limit single use products. Use items like reusable plastic
plates and tumblers from home as opposed to Styrofoam, paper and other
disposable items that otherwise could end up in a landfill.
5.
Recycling-to-go - Place reusable plastic bins in the rear cargo
area of your vehicle to create a mini recycling center. Make lists of common
tailgate items that can be recycled to help your guests know where they go. You
can find a list of common items at the EPA’s website. On-site programs like the
Game Day Challenge help encourage recycling at more than 75 college campuses
nationwide – last year the schools effectively kept 500,000 pounds of waste out
of landfills!
