E, the channel best known for “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Fashion Police,” is debuting its newest show, “House of DVF,” starring designer Diane von Furstenberg and her team.
The show, which premiers on tonight at 10 p.m. EST, centers on a contest of sorts between eight young women who vie to become DVF’s brand ambassador.
“I really enjoyed doing the show,” von Furstenberg said. “It is glamorous, fun [and] informative about what happens behind the scenes in a fashion house. And I manage to pass on strong, empowering messages to young women.”
Aside from von Furstenberg, style editor Jessica Joffe and creative brand director Stefani Greenfield mentor the candidates throughout the season. The candidates plan press lunches and work DVF’s spring 2015 show during New York Fashion Week — and are expected to perform the tasks to a T.
“The show has been an unexpectedly revealing experience,” Joffe told WWD. “Working with — and occasionally admonishing — our ambassadorial candidates forced me to realize how much was expected of me — of us all — at DVF. In a wonderful way, the girls became my teachers, even though I’m sure they still think I want to eat them alive!”
The show caps a big year for von Furstenberg, who is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the wrap dress as well as the release of her latest memoir, “The Woman I Wanted to Be.”
Speaking of her memoir, DVF will sign books and chat with Tina Brown on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Union Square. On Nov. 10, Michael Bloomberg will host a party with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and Annette de la Renta celebrating the memoir.
