Ralph
Vaessen (Dutch designer, creative director and entrepreneur) started to design
sunglasses and eyewear early 2006 after a 15 year career at the Dutch
Government. He was looking for eyewear for himself, but he couldn’t find what he
was looking for. Ralph decided to make a drawing of the shape he wanted and
asked a small atelier to make it for him. Pleased with the outcome, Ralph saw an
opportunity. “Why design only one personal pair of glasses? Why not design a
collection?” A brand was born.
That
Ralph Vaessen started a creative career at a later age did not come as a
complete surprise. Fashion, design, art, architecture and music had been his
passion since he was a child. As a youngster he was already wearing designer
clothes by Pierre Cardin and in 1979, at an age of thirteen, he started to
create his own style of clothing influenced by the Ska Punk music scene and
later by the New Romantics, a fashion/music sub movement of the New Wave music
scene at the early ‘80s. His designs are still influenced by the independent
British music scene.
