Anita Patrickson –
the woman who builds confidence-boosting wardrobes for her celeb clientele
(Julianne Hough, Chrissy Teigen, Portia de Rossi and Hilary Duff, to name a
few!), knows that nothing makes a lady feel more self-assured quite like a
polished, dark ensemble -- no matter the season!
Tips on Building the
confident wardrobe:
·
Build an army of wardrobe
staples. Be sure that
your wardrobe contains staples like dark wash jeans, the perfect LBD and a
quality black tee. These are some of the most versatile pieces that can easily
be dressed up or down and transition from day to night with only a change of
accessories.
·
Splurge on high-quality basics. Classic, timeless
pieces – like blazers and cigarette pants – will remain in your wardrobe for
years to come and are worth the financial investment. If you want to rock a
trendy look, like the 70’s-era pieces and metallics that are currently on trend,
look for options that won’t break the bank.
Tips on Styling the
confident wardrobe:
·
Wear clothes that
fit. This is my
no-fail, confidence-boosting styling trick (along with smiling and standing
tall!). If the garment doesn’t fit like a glove, consider bringing it to a
tailor seamstress – it’s an inexpensive fix that can make you look and feel like
a million bucks.
·
Think of dark clothing as a blank
canvas. Dark clothing is
the most flattering color palette. It’s sleek and sexy with a sultry, alluring
element. Dark pieces make for a fantastic blank canvas to work off of because
you can really add in your own personal style. Here are two ways I like to style
dark clothing:
o
Pairing dark
garments with other darks, like navy and black. It’s such a sophisticated and
classic combo. You can elevate this look whilst keeping it clean and elegant by
adding a lacy white tank to a dark blouse and skirt or
trousers.
o
Matching dark
items with whites, creams or even prints during warm weather
Tips on Caring for the confident wardrobe:
·
Care for your clothes.
If you’re
investing in your wardrobe, be sure you’re taking care of the dark pieces
properly so they don’t lose their vibrancy. I use Woolite Darks to care for my
dark garments – it’s uniquely formulated with ingredients that prevent color
transfer and fading so dark colors stay dark for
longer.
·
Own your
look. Wear what you
feel comfortable and confident in. If you feel confident, it will show through
no matter what you’re wearing… even if the outfit is as simple as jeans and a
tee!
